Susie is a 21 year old aspiring fashion designer who currently attends
the San Francisco School of Design, in San Francisco, California. She
also works part time as a Fashion Model for some of the world's most
famous designers - appearing in both print ads and on the runaways of
New York, Milan, London, Paris and Tokyo.
Susie took on this job to learn more about the fashion industry, both
form the designers' and models' point of view. Her love for traveling
is also a catalyst in her taking on this line of work as photo shoots
can often take her to many faraway and exotic locales. This aspect of
modeling, Susie uses to it's full advantage by getting to know the land,
the culture and their people, thus inspiring her own designs. This is
also reflected in her own dressing sensibilities - combining the
treasures of the antiquated styles of the past with the modern twists of the
now.

Susie's heritage is as exotic as her lifestyle.... a native of San
Francisco from a Chinese-American father and a Spanish- American mother.
She was brought up to learn, value and be proud of her ancestral
heritages. Early in her childhood, her parents took her to China and Spain
to see for herself her cultural origins. An experience that made such
an impression on Susie and made her catch the travel bug.

Susie is a new 11' fashion doll making her way into your hearts and
your homes! She is fully articulated and she uses original face and body
sculpts. Her special facial sculpt and screening gives her a very
"multi-ethnic" aura, while her articulated body enables her to have more
posing capabilities. Her body size is comparable to other 1/6 scale
dolls enabling her to wear Jenny, Momoko, WTG, Silkstone Barbie, and
others' clothing -- and of course, ORIGINAL Clothing designed for her by
R&D and soon, collaborations with other special designers.

HER EVOLUTION:

Susie is the end results of R&D Fashion Dolls’ co-founders’, Rudi
Teruel and David Wu, combined years in the Fashion Doll World as
collectors, as well as, sellers of fashion dolls from all over the world. Rudi
and David wanted to present to the world of doll collecting a very
different kind of doll with an ASIAN American origin – giving her a unique
background and the best of both worlds has to offer in terms of designs
and concepts. They wanted her to reflect an ordinary modern,
fashionable girl who is very grounded and is proud of her ancient heritage, of
who she is. This can be seen in her various wardrobes that combines
and updates many Asian traditional clothing. With World Travel being a
favorite by the two gentlemen, they also incorporated this into Susie’s
world by giving Susie a mix heritage and placing her in the fashion
world as a teenage model. This scenario will enable Susie to travel
worldwide, in many exciting and exotic cities, and putting into focus a
variety of cultures that will be reflected in her wardrobes – subtlety and
of course, stylishly!

So much work and time were put into her making - from her preliminary
facial sculpt sketches, to sculpting the head mold, and right down to
her facial screening. Her looks are definitely unique to herself, as her
facial screening gives her a very multi ethnic feel and look to her.
The varying make up colors and hair shades also adds to her mystery and
automatically changes her expressions. This, for R&D and many
collectors, who has already been captivated by her beauty is her biggest
selling point. After all, it is not often that one can meet a doll that can
convey so much emotion and expression just by tilting her hear ever so
lightly. Susie is a 1/6 scale doll, stands 11 inches in height and is
fully articulated. Rudi and David chose this type of body to enable
her to hold, be photographed and displayed in many different poses. She
bends at the knees and elbows; her feet and wrists are both moveable;
and she has a twist waist.

Susie made her debut last year at the International Fashion Doll Make
Over Convention held in Dallas, Texas back in July – very fitting for
this very International fashion doll. With only a handful of dolls in
their initial stages to show, Rudi and David decided to get a feel for
collectors’ opinions – and the very warm welcome made the long trip
from TAIWAN to DALLAS very much worthwhile. It was satisfying to get
people’s attention in the middle of all the other beautiful dolls around
such as The Fashion Royalty Dolls by Jason Wu and Integrity Toys;
Robert Tonner’s complete line of Tyler, Betsy, Brenda Starr, etc…; Mel
Odom’s Gene and friends dolls; as well as, the long running Barbie doll
by Mattel. And let’s not forget to mention the numerous custom dolls
by some very talented people.

Susie made such an impact at the convention that a Yahoo Group was
formed immediately after the convention by Sherri Rhein and David Buttry
and have since added another co-moderator, Mary Ewing – they are three
of the nicest people in the doll collecting world. The group’s
membership, within a month, reached the 200 mark and now boasts over 300
members, making the site one of the fastest growing doll group around.

The initial 4 offerings, making their debut late WINTER of 2003, set
the tone for Susie’s World: San Francisco Days, highlighting Susie’s
background as a design student at a Fashion Design school in San
Francisco, where she was born. New York Nites, capturing her first time in
New York, as a newly discovered fashion model. Both clothing reflects
very fashionable and hip designs that you can actually imagine real
people would wear. The other two offerings on the other hand showcase the
fun aspect of the creators’ design ideas. Donning CRAYON RED color
hair and a black vinyl outfit (complete with zippered thigh- high boots!),
Susie travels to Tokyo to do a press junket for a new video game she
stars in – she is “Tokyo Trendy”. And wearing an original design
outfit, which was her entry in a design contest at her school carrying the
ASIAN-AMERICAN Heritage theme – Susie makes a very cute and
fashionable “China Girl”.

For 2004, Susie will be traveling to other cities such as a photo shoot
in London – focusing on the punk hey day, “London Calling” and going
back in time for a retro shoot, “Carnaby St Revisited”! She will lend
her presence and travel to Beijing, China for a benefit concert/fashion
show event, “Beijing Rocks”, as well as, personify “Milan Chic” for
an Italian designer during Fashion Week.. Plus a little R&R is mixed
in while doing a summer shoot in the “Riviera”.
